Unlucky European Championship

The Canyon Northwave MTB Team was unlucky at the European Championships. Due to technical problems, one of the favorites, Martin Stošek, did not finish. Marc Stutzmann, who finished in 38th place, also suffered a puncture. Stefanie Dohrn put in a good performance and finished 9th.

The women started at 9:00 a.m. A track of 80 kilometers with an elevation of over 2,500 meters awaited them. Stefanie Dohrn finished in 9th position.

Andreas Seewald had to miss the elite men's race, which started at 9:30 a.m., due to illness. The biggest hope of the team was Martin Stošek, who unfortunately suffered a puncture shortly after the start, which he had to manage and lost almost two minutes to the front. At the same place, Marc Stutzmann also suffered a puncture, finishing in 38th position.

Martin Stošek started a chase after technical problems, but the subsequent wheel change delayed him and he had to finish the gap again. He later gave up the race.

"At the fifth kilometre I had a puncture in a fast muddy descent, from about fifth place. I immediately had a hole in the tyre. I couldn't do anything. I gave two plugs, lost over a minute and a half and started the chase. Five kilometres before the end of the first circuit, my tyre was soft again so I was chasing on an almost empty tyre. But I only had 20 seconds to the front, so we changed it and the group caught me from behind. Then I started to run out, the pursuit cost me a lot of strength and at the fourth hour I retired from the race, I would not have gone for a good position anyway. I'm angry, I'm not aware of any mistakes, but when you go at such a pace, the loss can not be pulled back, "said Martin Stošek in the finish.

Martin Stošek

Marc Stutzmann, Stefanie Dohrn and Martin Stošek are now moving to Italy, where they will start in the Hero Dolomites. Keep your fingers crossed and follow the Canyon Northwave MTB Team on the website and social networks.
