Stošek takes 2nd place in the World Cup race, Vakoč raced on gravel for the first time

Last weekend in the Italian Finale Ligure, Martin Stošek won second place in the World Cup marathon race and climbed to the same place in the overall clasification. Marc Stutzman finished in 10th position, Stefanie Dohrn unfortunately did not finish the race and Andreas Seewald did not start due to illness. On Saturday, the prestigious gravel race Unbound Gravel took place in the United States, where Petr Vakoč, who did not ride for the Canyon Northwave Team jersey for the first time, also started.

In Finale Ligure, the riders faced a 100 km long track with an elevation of less than 4,000 m. Martin Stošek watched the front of the race from the start. After half of the total distance, he even ordered an attack and moved alone at the front, but then the Colombian Diego Arias caught up with him and in the 20 kilometers he snapped him. Martin finished in second place.

"I'm satisfied with the performance, I rode well and most importantly I didn't arrive at the finish as exhausted as in Nové Město na Moravě, where it was probably due to illness a week before. The race was decided today in the downhill before the last feed zone, where Diego created a small lead. Before that, I tried to get in, but Diego caught me and rode quite risky in the downhill, I told myself that I did not want to get injured in the downhill a week before Europe, so I did not go so risky and in the final hill I could not ride him, "said Martin Stošek at the finish.

Martin leading the race

We must not forget to mention that Petr Vakoč left the Canyon Northwave MTB Team at the end of May. His next career goal is mainly gravel racing, but he is not finished with mountain bikes, he would like to start the Cape Epic again in 2024 in a Canyon Northwave jersey.  Overseas, Petr has already managed two gravel races, first he started at Gravel Locos, where he finished sixth, last weekend he stood at the start of the prestigious Unbound Gravel event, which he finished in second place. But let's go back to his bike career. Petr evaluated his mountain biking as follows: "It's a combination of bike and road, it's fun, plus it's a new discipline. I think the race distances could suit me, it will be something like road classics. Based on the first three races, I will decide whether to go into gravel full-time or just enjoy racing. But for now, I have to decide. I have other plans, especially in the field of psychology and coaching," said Petr and we wish him good luck in the next part of his career.
